Schedule for Motion Unit with Miss Owens

Here is the schedule for the motion unit w/Miss Owens (the assignments & notes that have "see wiki" next to them can be downloaded).

Day One:
Day Two:
  • Review graphing (see wiki "9.20 Opener")
  • Notes on Motion, Distance/Displacement, Speed/Velocity, and Acceleration  (see wiki for P.P.)
  • Book examples
    • pg 331 #2, 4, 7
    • pg 333 Math Skills Box
    • pg 337 #8, 9
  • Calculating Motion Examples and Practice
  • Discuss objects and setup for motion lab (see wiki) 
Day Three:
  • Assign partners for Motion Lab
  • Discuss pros/cons of objects and setup and choose design (see wiki)
  • Collect motion data- constant speed and acceleration (see wiki)
    • Calculate averages and speed
    • Lab analysis 
Day Four:
  • Introduce Distance vs. time graphs and Speed vs. time graphs
  • Graph Motion Lab Data
    • Distance vs. Time Graph for Constant Speed Data
    • Speed vs. Time Graph for Constant Speed Data
    • Distance vs. Time Graph  for Acceleration Data
    • Speed vs. Time Graph for Acceleration Data
  • Motion Graphing Investigation (see wiki)- how different motions look on different types of graphs
  • Make up and act out graphs
Day Five:
  • Review Distance/Displacement, Speed/Velocity, and Acceleration  (see wiki "9.21 Opener")
  • Formula and unit review and examples of calculating motion 
  • Motion Practice (see wiki)
  • Motion and Graphing Study Guide (see wiki)
Day Six:
  • Questions/Quick Review
  • Motion and Graphing TEST
  • Prep for Egg Drop 
  • MythBusters Clips related to velocity if time (bullet dropped vs. fired and knight rider)
